An NFC tag of 8 × 18 mm sits in the end of the pen. It has no battery and nothing to charge. When you tap, your phone's own radio field powers it for that moment, and it answers with your card.
NTAG213 chip on an etched aluminium antenna, ISO/IEC 14443-A and NFC Forum Type 2.
